MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident you need to understand that you should not delay being examined. Insurance companies are typically involved after accidents of this kind and there are usually time frames that need to be adhered to in order to assure compensation for your injuries as well as for damage to the vehicles involved. Typically, in the absence of severe injuries, many people turn their attention to their damaged vehicle. Even though your damaged vehicle deserves attention you also need to understand that often an accident victim may not feel pain or other effects of their injuries at the time of the collision. Obvious injuries, like bleeding and broken bones, should be evaluated by qualified medical personnel, but unfortunately many times less obvious injuries do not get the attention they deserve. Quite commonly sprain and strain injuries to the neck and back and other structures may not be immediately apparent. They may raise their ugly heads several days, weeks or months after the collision. Often, when a person finally decides to seek treatment, it is too late to bring about permanent healing, and/or it is too late to file the appropriate claims to receive compensation for damages.

One of the most common results of a motor vehicle accident is whiplash injury. This condition results in neck pain and stiffness that can range from mild to severe. Often the symptoms will start off mild and then gradually fade, only to show up weeks or months later. In order to prevent the often permanent effects of whiplash it is absolutely important to be seen by a chiropractor as soon as possible! Many doctors underestimate the future damage caused by whiplash just because there were no broken bones or other obvious injury. We have personally seen many patients over the years develop lifelong pain due to not receiving proper chiropractic treatment early after their injury. Remember, pills and potions only help symptoms, they do not fix the cause of the problem.

Some common symptoms that you may be experiencing for which we strongly recommend our consultation are:

  • headaches
  • neck or back pain
  • radiating pain into the arms or legs
  • difficulty sleeping
  • brain fog (inability to concentrate, focus, pay attention, forgetfulness)

At Brown Family Chiropractic we have successfully treated many car accident victims in our 34 years of experience. Our knowledgeable staff will help answer many questions related to proper insurance filing and will generally oversee the handling of your injury claim.
